Fake monks are using the bracelet scam in San Francisco

If you’ve been to Europe, you likely already know what I’m talking about: the bracelet scam.

You’re walking along the street or sitting in the sunshine. A man or woman comes up to you, puts a bracelet on your wrist with a big smile and then, suddenly, starts demanding money for it.

That scam seems to have crossed the pond, and it’s added a new twist: The people doing it are dressed up like monks.

Stanley Roberts of KRON’s excellent “People Behaving Badly” segment recently did an exploration of the phenomenon. He catches quite a few fake monks in action. After giving their target a beaded bracelet, they ask for a signature on their “peace” petition. Once the target has signed, they’re told to write down their donation. If the target balks, the scammer presses them for cash. And if they don’t have any, they snatch the bracelet back and look for a new target.

The fake monks aren’t just targeting tourists. They’re aiming for anyone on the street. So if you’re in the Union Square or downtown areas, keep your hands in your pockets if you see a suspicious-looking monk, armed with bracelets, coming your way.

Speaking from experience, you can definitely stand your ground. I had a man tie a friendship bracelet tight around my wrist in Italy a few years ago. When he demanded payment for it, I put my hands behind my back and refused to let him take it back. We got in a shouting match, and he decided it wasn’t worth it. He was furious, but I’d won.

Moral of the story: Never let aggressive panhandlers win. Especially when they’re preying on your initial kindness for monetary gain.

Another Fake Job-Experience Racket Busted By Bengaluru CCB Police

Bangalore: Based on tip of information about the fake job certificate is being issued by some companies in Marathahalli area as soon as the information was passed our Central Crime Branch F&M sleuths swung into action and conducted a raid on 2 IT Firms and detained four persons at the time of raid,who were issuing fake Job Experience certificate for Rs.25-30,000, to help the job seekers to secure jobs. Goyal said CCB F&M Squad had raided on 7 companies recently in the month of October and November 2014,where we got big Nexus in which companies were issuing fake job experience certificate to thousands aspirants across the city. They were charging money from them and then they were giving fake job experience certificate and yesterday also CCB F&M squad got this info and raided 2 IT firms in HAL PS limits in Marathahalli area and raided 2 companies by name Nexsyss technologies and another by name VGS technologies and apprehended 4 persons.in which each of them registered 3 fake companies and they were used to prepare fake experience certificates in the name of many individuals who were job less by charging Rs.25-30,000,per customer.these accused have even set up fake firms in whose name they used to issue the experience certificate and from last 5 months. They were issuing the fake job experience certificate in the name of firms namely,as,Evalue Technology Pvt Ltd,Enterfuse Soft Technology,Aadrika IT Solutions,Grams Lab India Pvt Ltd,Prima Veers Engender Technology,Letivo Soft Systems,etc, And since last raids they were known and had taken certain precautions as in the last raids we dint find that many seals and certificates.and we found they have change their Modus of Operandi like they were issuing certificate first to their email and charge initially Rs.3,000,and once the job was confirmed then the accused use to send ‘Original Fake Documents through courier and they were charging the rest or remaining part of the money and were issuing only one copy as hard copy of the certificates.The statement at the time of interrogation was revealed by the accused and they have confessed their crime and after examining their system and all we have found evidence of more than 1000 fake job certificate prepared by them and the 2 firms has been raided and the accused has been identified as Krishna (26),Vijay Ragha Reddy (35),Sai Vijay (35),and Venkata Reddy (26).They are native of Guntur,Ananthapur,Madanapalli,and Nellur, (Andhra Pradesh),and our team has seized 5 Laptops,2 Computers,Mobiles,and others,and a case has been registered in HAL PS and we are scrutinising the data and our team is contacting the HR of the companies about the same and further investigation is on, and finally Goyal said they had down graded their operation due to recent CCB raids in BTM layout but still they could not escaped and been raided and with this Bengaluru Police Commissioner M N Reddi,Addl CP Crime P Harishekaran,Jt CP Crime Chandrashekar has appreciated the whole F&M team for the wonderful job done by them and even appealed and requested to HR Companies to come forward with info and even victims who have been cheated from the consultancies can send us details to our Twitter account as,@ccbbangalore,said by DCP Crime Abhishek Goyal.

Yet Another Fake Placement Consultancy Busted in Bengaluru

After busting a fake placement consultancy in Shivajinagar, CCB on Saturday busted yet another placement consultancy in RT Nagar. However, the CCB has indicated the source of information as an e-Mail.

The CCB shared this successful mission on Facebook stating, it was a consultancy named HUMAN RESOURCE PLACEMENT (HRP) SERVICES, which was running the business of fraud placements. This was located at No. 28, 1st floor, Devegauda road, RT Nagar, Bengaluru.

The CCB officials have seized 10 monitors, 8 CPU, 2 laptops, 15 landline phone sets, payment slips, company seal, cheques etc from HRP Services Office.

This consultancy had almost the same procedure of calling up the unemployed people and promising them job post registration. Their source of candidate information was Job Portals, which gives recruiter access for anyone who pay them.

Candidates had to pay fees of  INR Rs 4,000 to register in their consultancy, but many did not get job in spite of shelling out their money.

Human Resource Placement Services Consultancy also used to arrange fake interviews and also sending out e-Mails with fake ID’s. By default all candidates were not hired in as a result of this drama.

A cursory check of records showed that from August 2013, 726 job seekers got registered by paying Re 30,80,000 and only 367 candidates were refunded a total of Re 12,29,000. Older data is being collected.

As a result of raid by the CCB officials have arrested the people involved in. Abdul Ali (Accounts manager), Sayeeda Ruhi (Manager), Tasmiya (Placement officer), Fatima (HR Manager)and MD Meenhaj (Placement & asst a/c officer) are identified to be the arrested. Owner Sayyad Gaus of Rajaji Nagar is reported to be absconding and as the CCB is on search for the mastermind behind this.

HOW TO : 5 Ways to Identify Genuineness of a Job Consultancy

With increasing number of fake jobs and fake consultancies in Bengaluru, many aspirants are being cheated with false promises. YB Post had reported on two consultancies which were busted recently in Bengaluru. There must be few more or many more consultancies across Bengaluru which run their fraud business. We bring you some important key points which can help you decide on genuineness of the consultancy.

1. Job opening details would be specific

When consultancies approach you, they would share job specific details with reference to job opening; including name of the company, job description and they always refer to the source of your profile. If any consultancy which approaches you saying without any specific detail or with a vague information of ‘job fair’, you got to be very careful. There is something fishy if a consultancy approaches random person without even checking the profile in detail.

2. There is nothing called registration fees

Consultancies should not charge you as ‘registration fees’ as their payment or source of income is from clients who pay them for head hunting. Fake consultancies name their income in terms of registration fees and resume processing fees, which can only benefit them financially not you in any way. Thus there is not guarantee on you getting a job after shelling out your money.

3. Offers are not always genuine

Some consultancies may issue the offer letter in exchange of some serious amount of money. Printing an offer letter is a very easy task, as the format of all offer letters can reach public very easily. It’s you who should understand that offer cannot come from backdoor and getting an offer is not a cake walk, even if you want to buy it; in addition you will have your nose cut if you attempt to join with fake offer letter.

4. Beware of road side head hunters

You may come across fake consultancies which hunt aspirant even on street. This is something which YB Post witnessed near RV Dental College of JP Nagar 1^st Phase a month ago.

Our team came across 2 boys who were asking every pedestrian youngster whether they need a job. You should understand the fact that such consultancies are purely idiotic, and no genuine consultancies run their business in this manner. We believe that there must be few more consultancies who do head hunting on the roads.

5.  Do not buy experience

Almost a month ago CCB had busted a consultancy which was selling relieving letter and experience letters of reputed MNC’s. There should be few more in Bangalore which would sell such documents, but buying them cannot make your career. Fake documents may help you to get a job, but you will get caught in background checks and thrown out of the job; moreover you will become a blacklisted person in company’s record.

Career Guru believes that such fake consultancies must be eradicated from our society. If you get cheated, don’t just cry and keep mum, spread the message and legally report it. You would be helping many aspirants like you if you do report it.
